LAST POST

I will no longer be updating this blog. I pray that we will continue to love, care, and bless the sisters we visit teach with the pure love of Christ.

Sister Mary Ellen Smoot (RS General President 1997-2002) said: "Visiting teaching is a way to help us care for and about each other. It is a way for us to develop the characteristics of a follower of Jesus Christ. It is a way to make sure that no one in the Lord's kingdom is alone".

Whenever you are in trouble

Here's a beautiful and inspiring video of a loving dad, Donny Osmond, whose son is currently serving a mission in Netherland. You don't need to have a missionary to relate to the message of this song. It is a message for all of us who have parents, and also because we have a Savior that we can turn to when we need help. Please click on the link to listen to the song.

FEBRUARY - VT QUOTE

A meaningful visit is one in which the teachers and the sisters visited have an opportunity for a private conversation and where the visited sister can feel the warmth, love, and concern that her visiting teachers have for her...studying carefully the visiting teaching messages, adapting them as necessary, and presenting them effectively to meet the individual needs of each sister. (RS Handbook)

JANUARY - VT QUOTE

Visiting teaching will provide every sister in the Church with a friend, a helper, someone to care. Not one sister need ever feel alone. We need not feel that no one understands or cares. We will all be called to be visiting teachers to our sisters. Our time with each other will be what we make it. Our sister's needs will be our challenges. Some will need physical help; others spiritual or social help. But all will need something from their visiting teachers. Serving means doing it! Relief Society is according to your nature. It is natural for females to have feelings of charity. You are placed in a situation where you can act according to these sympathies, which God has planted in your bosoms. If you live up to these privileges, the angels cannot be restrained from being your associates!

Every Sister

Every sister is dearly needed in each and every ward.
Not one can be spared from the calling to send the gospel forward.

It isn't enough that we see them in passing at the store.
To nurture every spirit, it will take a little more.

The City of Enoch was special because the people treated each other,
Not as friends or neighbors, but, as sisters and brothers.

Please remember when you visit the sisters in your care,
You have the opportunity to build a special city there.

We visit teach because we've made covenants with the Lord and they are fulfilled as we share our hearts and souls. ...Visiting teaching is all about family. As we show charity to those we serve, we become family by affection.Sister Bonnie D. Parkin

A Visiting Teaching Boost

Is it possible that the Savior might have said the following about Sisterhood and Visiting Teaching?

“I know these good sisters are so busy doing the other necessary things of life that often they forget to have true fellowship with each other. Some hardly even know the other sisters in their wards. Yet, the need for personal contact and friendship and love between sisters is greater than ever. Too often they forget part of the baptismal covenant that says they promise to bear one another's burdens.

”I know that they are busy providing for their families, living and dead. They cannot be all things to all people. But they can provide much happiness and share each other’s burdens. I will inspire the Relief Society president to call teams where the companions can teach each other by example and love. I will inspire her to assign routes where I need special help, and as these visiting teachers come to me in prayer, they will draw closer to me. Through this strengthened bond I will inspire these sisters in ways that they could not experience in other circumstances. Their own paths will be lighted as they light the way for others.

“I can remember all things, and I see the sisters of these wards as they were when we were all together in the premortal existence. Some are only waiting for the love and attention and efforts of others to inspire them to find their way back. It will not be easy. My own mission was not easy. But my mission made theirs possible. Now these sisters can show each other the way. The sacrifices they make for each other will not enslave them but will exalt them.”
